The Secret Scar Technique of Dr. Pratt

Although Dr. Pratt is able to perform breast augmentation thru several incisions, he feels that the inframammary approach has many advantages for breast implant placement and "scar secrecy". Since the inframammary crease is in the most critical area of the procedure, an incision here allows easy access and the highest degree of control in forming the breast implant pocket, which leads to the most consistent cosmetic results in Dr Pratt's hands. This is especially true in terms of breast symmetry, which can be an issue with either transaxillary or transumbilical (TUBA) incisions. It also allows the placement of implants either above or below the pectoral muscle with equal facility. Inframammary incisions also have a lower rate of infection than periareolar incisions and do not leave a scar in the middle of the breast. Although periareolar scars usually heal with an acceptable scar, there is a chance for a poor scar, so why take a chance of putting a poor scar in the central breast?

In the past, inframammary incisions had only one major drawback: scar visibility as a result of scar migration up onto the breast or down onto the chest. Inconsistency was the rule. As long as the scar stayed concealed at the fold, the breast augmentation result was good, but sometimes the scar would either move up the breast or creep down the chest, making it visible.

Now, Dr. Pratt has developed what he coined the "Secret Incision," technique, a modification on the traditional inframammary incision. In his version, Dr. Pratt takes extra steps to ensure that the inframammary scar stays well-hidden in the breast fold. That means you get all the advantages of the inframammary incision without the fear that your scar will become visible. And with proper postoperative care, the scars fade so they are typically faint and hardly noticeable.
