Breast Enhancement and Mammograms
Bellevue, Everett, Kirkland, Tacoma, and Seattle, Washington
Many of our breast enhancement patients are concerned that they will not be able to have mammograms performed correctly after their breast enhancement surgery. Fortunately, this is untrue; our breast enhancement patients are all able to continue to monitor their breast health through mammograms.
The key for breast enhancement patients is to have a mammogram performed a few weeks prior to the breast enhancement surgery and then again about six months after the procedure. By doing this, there is a benchmark for future mammograms to be compared to.
In addition to this, it is important that breast enhancement patients inform their mammogram technician that they have breast implants. When the mammogram technician has this information, they can take the additional images needed to have a clear view of all the breast tissue.
Also, breast enhancement patients should go to a mammography technician that has been trained specifically for performing mammograms on women with breast implants.
We want to make sure that all out breast enhancement patients find that every aspect of their life is improved after their breast enhancement procedure. If you live in the Kirkland or Everett, Washington are and are considering breast enhancement surgery, please schedule an initial consultation with Dr. Pratt today.

Breast Enhancement and Breast-Feeding
We have met many different women that have come into our Everett and Kirkland, Washington breast surgery offices concerned about their ability to breast-feed once they have had breast enhancement surgery. We would like all our patients to know that breast enhancement is completely safe and will not impair breast-feeding for most patients.
While certain forms of breast enhancement surgery can increase the risk of low milk supply, they can be avoided by informing Dr. Pratt of your desire to breast-feed your children.
Breast Reduction Surgery - Unlike a breast lift or simple breast enhancement surgery, during a breast reduction breast tissue is removed, which can impede your breast-feeding ability.
Incision Placement - While breast-feeding can be accomplished after breast enhancement surgery no matter what incision is used, there is a slightly higher risk of low milk supply by undergoing breast enhancement with the areolar incision. Dr. Pratt is proud to offer his patients the Secret Scar approach for breast enhancement, concealing scars by placing them in natural creases on the body.
Implant Placement - When undergoing breast enhancement, the breast implant can be placed wither above or below the chest muscles. Dr. Pratt has found that there is less risk of breast-feeding complications when the breast implant is placed below the pectoral muscles.
If you are considering breast enhancement surgery and are still looking forward to breast-feeding your children, please schedule an initial consultation with Dr. Pratt at either our Everett or Kirkland, Washington breast enhancement offices.

Breast Augmentation in Your 40s and 50's
If you are unhappy with your breasts as a result of the natural aging process, breast-feeding, or breast asymmetry, breast augmentation in your 40s and 50's can help you regain the youthful body type you had years ago.
The first step toward changing your breast appearance is to schedule a breast augmentation consultation with Dr. Pratt at either out Kirkland or Everett, Washington plastic surgery offices. During this initial consultation, Dr. Pratt will work with you to identify what you'd like to change about your breasts and what procedures will give you the breast appearance you want.
Often times, breast augmentation is just one part of reshaping or resizing your breasts. Dr. Pratt may use a combination of breast surgeries to give you the results you want like breast augmentation in conjunction with a breast lift procedure.
Some considerations for patients in their 40's and 50's opting for breast augmentation include:
Safety - Most patients seeking breast augmentation in their 40's and 50's are generally healthy and well nourished, thus the possibility of complications following breast implant surgery is low in this group of patients. Patients who have a single, well controlled disease such as high blood pressure, are generally well suited to have breast augmentation with or without a lift procedure in an outpatient surgical center with little increase in risk of complications. Dr. Pratt may require certain lab tests prior to surgery or a medical clearance by the patient's medical physician prior to surgery. Patients who smoke should consider quitting prior to surgery to further decrease their risk for problems.
Skin Elasticity - Patients having breast augmentation in this age group may have droopy nipples and which could require a lift procedure to enhance the appearance of their breast augmentation.
Mammogram - Patients undergoing breast implant surgery in their 40's and 50's will require a preoperative mammogram as recommended by the American Cancer Society. Our office will be glad to arrange for you to have this exam if you have not had one in the previous 6-12 months.
Additional Procedures - Many women undergoing breast augmentation in their 40's and 50's find that this is the perfect opportunity to have other cosmetic surgeries performed at the same time to really gain the appearance they've always wanted. Dr. Pratt also performs:

Breast Augmentation in Your Late 20's and 30's
Having breast augmentation in your late 20's and 30's can improve both your appearance and self-confidence. Patients in this age group often seek breast augmentation following childbirth, weight loss, or both. After pregnancy, the natural process that occurs with the breasts is called post-partum involution, or loss of breast volume due to the atrophy of the breast tissue. For many women, small, flat, or asymmetrical breasts can cause them to be self-conscious about the way they look in certain clothes and swimwear.
Dr. Pratt is proud to offer the women in the Kirkland, Seattle, and Everett, Washington area with breast augmentation results they will be thrilled with. If you are considering breast augmentation in your early 20's or 30's, you can benefit from a variety of factors:
Breast Size - Some women continue to change in breast size well into their 20s. Patients who undergo breast augmentation in their late 20's and 30's can be confident that their breasts will be stable in size as long as they do not become pregnant.
Safety - Most patients seeking breast augmentation in their late 20's and 30's are very healthy and well nourished, thus the chance of complications following breast implant surgery is very low in this group of patients. Fortunately, these days, smoking is less popular in particularly in this age group than it has been in the past, thus further reducing the risks of breast augmentation.
Skin Elasticity - Patients having breast augmentation in this age group often times will have had at least one pregnancy prior to having their surgery. The temporary increase in breast size during pregnancy and while nursing causes skin stretching, which in some can lead to a loss of skin elasticity. If severe enough, a lift procedure may be needed to lift the areola to a "perky" height along with the breast augmentation.
Maturity - Patients in their late 20's and 30's will tend to have a good long term view of the size breasts they would like to have in light of their particular life style. Patients in this age group usually will make a mature, educated decision based on their body shape following pregnancy or weight loss.
Mammogram - Patients undergoing breast implant surgery in their late 20's and early 30's will usually not need to undergo mammography breast examination prior to their surgery. It is recommended that all patients having breast surgery aged 35 or older have a preoperative mammogram. Patients who are at higher risk for breast cancer such as those with a positive family history of breast cancer, particularly in their mother or sister, should consult with their plastic surgeon regarding their feelings regarding the possible need for a preoperative mammogram.
Additional Procedures - Many women undergoing breast augmentation in their late 20's and 30's find that this is the perfect opportunity to have other cosmetic surgeries performed at the same time to really gain the appearance they've always wanted. Dr. Pratt also performs:
If you would like to correct the size or any other aspect of your breasts and you live in the Everett or Kirkland, Washington area, please schedule an initial consultation Dr. David Pratt at Pratt Plastic Surgery in Everett and Kirkland, Washington.

Breast Augmentation in Your Late Teens and Early 20's
Breast augmentation is something thousands of small breasted women in their 20s consider all over the Seattle, Everett, and Kirkland, Washington area. At one time, breast augmentation may have been considered taboo or as something only movie stars or celebrities would have done, but today, any young woman can consider breast augmentation.
If you are unsatisfied with the appearance of your breasts because they are too small, flat, or if they appear asymmetrical, Dr. Pratt from Pratt Plastic Surgery in Kirkland and Everett, Washington can help you gain the breast appearance you want.
Patients considering having breast augmentation in their late teens and early 20's should consider the following facts:
Age Consideration - According to FDA regulations, patients must be at least 18 years of age in order to qualify to have breast augmentation with saline breast implants and at least 22 in order to undergo breast augmentation using silicone breast implants. FDA imposes age restrictions on the marketing of breast implants because during the late teens and early 20's we know that your breasts are still growing and maturing. Additionally, patients younger than this may not have the proper maturity to provide a proper informed consent regarding the procedure, alternatives and risks.
Safety - Virtually all patients seeking breast augmentation in their late teens and early 20's are very healthy and well nourished, thus the possibility of complications following breast implant surgery is extremely low in this group of patients. Fortunately, these days, smoking is less popular in younger patients than it has been in the past, thus further reducing the risks of breast augmentation.
Skin - When you have breast augmentation in your late teens and early 20s, you will generally benefit from having youthful skin, which is more highly elastic and thus will help maintain the proper perky position of your breast implants.
Mammogram - Patients undergoing breast implant surgery in their late teens and early 20's rarely will need to undergo mammography breast examination prior to their surgery. Patients who are at higher risk for breast cancer such as those with a positive family history of breast cancer, particularly in their mother or sister, should consult with their plastic surgeon regarding their feelings regarding the possible need for a preoperative mammogram.
For some women, their breasts may already be too big for their body size or shape. If this is the case, Dr. Pratt can perform a breast lift or breast reduction so that you can live the way you want without being impeded by your breasts.
If you live in the Everett or Kirkland, Washington area and are consider breast augmentation in your 20s, please contact Pratt Plastic Surgery to schedule an initial consultation with Washington breast augmentation surgeon, Dr. David Pratt.

Breast Asymmetry
Having breasts that are very different in size or shape can make any woman self-conscious. At Pratt Plastic Surgery we treat many women in the Tacoma, Everett, and Kirkland, Washington area suffering from this problem so that they can better fit into the bras, clothes, and swimwear of their choice.
In order to correct breast asymmetry, Dr. Pratt first meets with patients to determine exactly what they would like to correct with their breast appearance. After this comprehensive initial consultation, Dr. Pratt will be able to outline a course of treatment that may include breast reduction, a breast lift, breast augmentation, or a combination of procedures.
Our goal when correcting breast asymmetry is to provide you with a breast appearance that is both symmetrical and natural looking. Depending on your body size and type, correcting your breasts may involve multiple procedures so that you can look as good as possible.
Once your breast asymmetry procedure has been completed, you will need to avoid any strenuous activity for the first few weeks. Following that, it may take an additional few weeks for swelling and bruising to diminish. When you have healed, you will be able to enjoy your breasts by wearing whatever you like.
If you are suffering from being self-conscious about your breast asymmetry, please schedule an initial consultation with Dr. Pratt at either our Kirkland or Everett, Washington breast surgery offices.

The Benefits of Saline Implants
We are proud to offer our Everett and Kirkland, Washington breast augmentation patients saline breast implants to improve their body contour. Cosmetic surgeon Dr. David Pratt can place saline breast implants either above or below the chest muscle depending on your body type.
Some of the benefits that saline breast implants provide patients over other forms of breast implants include:
Safety Track Record - Saline breast implants have a longer proven safety track record than any other type of implant available today, as they have been used for breast augmentation since the 1960s. Unlike other forms of breast implants, saline breast implants are filled with a sterile saltwater solution that is completely safe in the unlikely event that the breast implant were to rupture.
Cost - Saline breast implants are significantly less expensive than are silicone implants and do not require repeated costly MRI examinations. It is generally recommended for patients with silicone implants to have regular MRI breast examinations in order to check for signs of possible occult rupture. With saline implants rupture is quite rare, however, if rupture does occur, it is obvious without special tests since the implant deflates and this is clearly evident on examination by your physician.
Incision Size - Since saline breast implants are inflated only after they are placed in their proper position, the incisions required to place the breast implants can be much smaller than the incisions required for other breast implant options.
Appearance - Dr. Pratt has the more than 16 years of breast implant surgery experience and has found that essentially all of the saline breast augmentation patients have been very happy with their result. Spouses are similarly happy with the natural feel of saline breast implants. Saline breast implants have a very low likelihood of "capsular contracture," a fancy way of describing formation of thick scar tissue around one's implant which causes the breast implant to become hard, round, unnatural appearing balls. Patients who are extremely thin or have very little native breast tissue should in most cases undergo submuscular saline breast implantation.
Dr. Pratt has reported excellent results in patients undergoing saline breast implant surgery in patients suffering from breast asymmetry, breasts that are too small for their body size, or breasts that have lost their fullness as a result of aging or breast-feeding.
If you are considering breast augmentation in the Seattle, Kirkland, Everett, or Tacoma, Washington area, please schedule an initial consultation with Dr. Pratt to learn more about how saline breast implants can give you the breast appearance you want.
