Scar Revision

Unsightly scars resulting from previous trauma, surgery, and severe acne are the most common complaints of those who seek scar revision. Whether the problem is a widened scar, an elevated reddened scar, a depressed or darkened scar, there are effective techniques to significantly improve the appearance of these scars.

CO2 Laser Skin Resurfacing

The effects of age, sun exposure, harsh weather, as well as repetitive facial movements all lead to eventual wrinkling of the facial skin. Patients commonly ask Dr. Pratt to help them improve the appearance of their facial skin. CO2 laser resurfacing is a procedure performed for the purpose of wrinkle improvement, facial skin tightening, acne scar improvement, or the treatment or removal of skin lesions. The carbon dioxide laser emits an intense beam of light that vaporizes a very thin layer of the abnormal skin surface. During the healing phase, healthier, more organized skin components are deposited, thus improving the appearance and health of the remaining skin. Additionally, the heat from the laser causes up to 25% shrinkage of the skin components, thus causing a tightening of the treated skin.

Laser Removal of Pigmented Spots

Dark spots on the skin can often be effectively removed when treated with the Q-Switched Ruby laser. The laser works by passing a special laser light through the skin and this light energy is selectively absorbed by the dark pigment of the brown spot. The absorption of the light energy results in the partial destruction of the dark pigment and then over 4 to 6 weeks following the treatment, your body's own defense system carries away the remainder of the shattered pigment particles.

Eyelid Surgery

Common complaints of patients seeking cosmetic eyelid surgery include excessive or wrinkled skin of the eyelids, lower eyelid "bags", and sometimes decreased peripheral vision. Eyelid surgery is one of the most popular cosmetic procedures for both males and females, and can have a very dramatic effect in restoring a more youthful, rested appearance. When loose folds, sagging skin and bagginess are reduced, the eyes appear more naturally alert and brighter. It can be performed on either the upper or lower lids or both. Often, it is performed in conjunction with a face or forehead lift. Since the procedure cannot eliminate crows feet at the corners of the eye, either laser skin resurfacing or treatment with Botox may also be done.
