The most popular cosmetic procedure Dr. David Pratt performs on Asian patients is the Asian Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty). Approximately 50% of Asians have a “single eyelid” resulting in a relatively narrow eye aperture. The Asian Blepharoplasty creates a “double upper eyelid” with a well defined crease, and opens up the aperture of the eye, creating a look of alertness and beauty. Pratt, understands the particular wants and needs of his Asian patients, such as the importance of creating a natural appearing eyelid which is just the right size, not too wide and not too narrow.
During your confidential consultation, Pratt, will examine your eyes and will offer his expert opinion as to what changes will beautify your eyes. Using a special instrument designed by Dr. Pratt, you will have the opportunity to show the doctor just how wide you desire your upper eyelid. David Pratt, will then take measurements in order to ensure the eyelid width that you desire is the width that you get.
Asian Blepharoplasty is performed in our office surgery suite under local anesthesia. The procedure takes approximately one hour. The sutures are removed 5 days following surgery. Swelling and bruising are usually minimal, and recovery time is usually between 1 and 2 weeks.
Asian patients who seek cosmetic nasal surgery (Rhinoplasty) often wish to augment the bridge of the nose with a silicone implant, narrow the nostrils, or have the tip of the nose made smaller and more defined. This procedure is significantly different from that performed on Caucasian patients. Dr. Pratt is experienced in performing this procedure on Asian patients and he understands the techniques required to produce a beautiful nose. Occasionally, a patient seeking a Rhinoplasty will also complain of difficulty breathing through one or both nostrils. Additional procedures such as straightening the nasal septum or clearing the nasal airway of obstructions can be performed simultaneously by Dr. Pratt.
Pratt, performs Asian Rhinoplasty surgery in the outpatient surgicenter of an area hospital. Although generally carried out under general anesthesia, minor procedures such as refinement of the nasal tip and narrowing of the nostrils can be performed under local anesthesia and light sedation. Incisions are generally internal and not visible; however in some cases an external incision may be required.
When surgery is complete, a splint is applied to help your nose maintain its new shape. Recovery time usually varies from 1 to 2 weeks, with strenuous activity allowed at 2 weeks. Contact sports should be avoided for a minimum of 8 weeks.
The Asian idea of facial beauty is based upon a rounded facial contour versus the Western ideal which is based on a more angular structure. Dr. David Pratt understands these differences and performs several procedures which address the particular desires of the Asian patient with regard to achieving a more rounded and harmonic facial contour. These procedures include softening the angle of the jawbone, as well as decreasing the prominence of the cheekbones.
Procedure
These procedures are carried out through incisions which are hidden inside of the mouth, thus they cannot be seen. Surgery is normally performed on an outpatient basis in our local hospital surgicenter. These surgeries can be combined with other surgeries such as the Asian Eyelid procedure, with the second surgery being significantly discounted.
David Pratt, has a substantial experience in surgery of the facial bones and performs such surgeries on a regular basis.
